Who are you supporting?

This winter Silverfork Skimo qualified 13 athletes to compete in the Ski Mountaineering World Championships among the best skimo racers from around the world! We make up around ⅓ of the national team competing in March! As a community, we are so proud and excited to cheer them on!

Meet the Team

Sienna Petersen

Hey! I’m Sienna Petersen! I’m so stoked to have qualified for the World Skimo Championships!! It’s always been a major life dream and goal of mine to competitively race in Europe. This is my 5th year racing and second year on the US National Team. I’m a senior in high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I also plan to attend college and continue skimo racing!! Skimo is still very small in the United States, and every contribution and act of support means the world to us, so thank you!!!

Landon Jakob

Hey! My name is Landon and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to head to Switzerland to race in the individual, sprint, and vertical at the World Championships! This is my third season on Silverfork Skimo and second season on the United States Skimo National Team. Skimo quickly became my greatest passion after I joined the team, and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. It has been a big goal of mine for the past two seasons to qualify for the World Championships. I’m super stoked! When I'm not training for Skimo, I enjoy school, playing piano, climbing, biking, and surfing. Thank you so much for all your support helping me and my teammates get over to Europe for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Ben Bigwood

Hello! I’m Benjamin, a Silverfork Skimo athlete! I’m so excited to have qualified for World Championships in the sprint, individual, and vertical. This is my second season doing Skimo and my first year on the USA Skimo National Team. Once I started skimo, I immediately knew how awesome this sport is, and I have been obsessed ever since. Last year I was inspired by my teammates who raced the Youth World Cups in Europe, and it has been my goal to represent the US ever since. Outside of Skimo, I enjoy mountain biking, climbing, and playing violin. Thank you so much to everyone who helps us get over to Europe! Can't wait to get out there, try our best, and represent the United States on the big stage!

Helen Desmond

Hi! My name is Helen Desmond, I am a 17-year-old from Santa Fe, NM. This is my 3rd season competing in ski mountaineering, second season on Silverfork, and second season competing for the US National Ski Mountaineering team. I have grown up in the mountains, and when I am not skiing, I enjoy running, mountain biking, and spending my time outside. Over the past two seasons, I've had the opportunity to race across the United States and internationally in World Cups held in France, Germany, and Norway. These experiences have broadened my perspective on the sport and fueled my ambition to work even harder to qualify for the World Championships this year. I am so honored to represent the United States in the vertical, sprint, and individual events. My teammates and I appreciate every donation that will help us get to Europe!

Carson Leys

Hi! My name is Carson, and this will be my second World Championships. I can’t wait to represent USA Skimo in the sprint, vertical, and individual! I started skimo in eighth grade and immediately fell in love with the sport: this is my fifth season with Silverfork and my third on the national team. When I’m not doing skimo, I love to run, mountain bike, read, and write. Thank you so much for any and all support!

Joshua Itoi

Hi, my name is Joshua! I’m very excited to race the sprint in Switzerland at the World Championships. I’ve been doing ski mountaineering for 8 years now, and I love being out in the mountains. I also enjoy archery and offroading when I’m not skiing. Huge thank you to anyone who helps fund our team!

McCall Birkinshaw

Hi! My name is McCall Birkinshaw! I fell in love with ski mountaineering around 7 years ago. I have trained and explored with Silverfork Skimo in the Wasatch Mountains. I have been on the national team for 2 years and feel super grateful to have the opportunity to race in the World Championships. I also enjoy competitive mountain biking, recreational climbing, and camping with my friends! Thank you for supporting the US National Team juniors to represent our country!

Anders Carlson

Hi, My name is Anders Carlson. I'm very excited to represent Silverfork and USA Skimo in Morgins, Switzerland at the World Championships. I will be competing in the individual and vertical disciplines. Qualifying for world champs has been a huge goal and dream of mine for many years. This will be my 9th season on the Silverfork Skimo team and second season on the US National Team. This team means a lot to me, and I can't wait to race alongside my teammates who have all worked so hard towards this shared goal. Thank you to all who support and cheer us on. Stella Gillespie

Hi! My name is Stella Gillespie. This is my third year on the Silverfork team and my first year on the national team! I’m so stoked to have the opportunity to race in the World Championships in Switzerland!! It will be my first time racing internationally, and I can’t wait to experience it all! I grew up backcountry skiing with my dad and joined skimo for the social aspect and to stay fit in the winter! It quickly became so much more than that. Over the past few years, I’ve grown to really love this sport. I’ve learned to enjoy the process of training and preparing for my races. I look forward to being able to push myself in Europe against the very best!! Thank you to those that are able to support us going to World Champs!!!

Bryce Ostermiller

Hey! I’m Bryce from Salt Lake City. I’m on a gap year racing Skimo World Cups in Europe—getting my butt kicked but loving it. I’m all about languages, fantasy books, and adventure sports. Planning to get paragliding certified this spring, then heading to college in New England in the fall. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to go race at World Championships for the second time and race the sprint, vertical, and individual! I appreciate everyone’s support to help us get to this awesome race!

Nicholas Rocco

Hello! My name is Nicholas, and I’m honored to represent Team USA in skimo. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in the upcoming Youth World Championship Sprint and continue helping put USA Skimo on the map. With five seasons of experience and three Youth World Cup appearances, I am committed to pushing the limits of American skimo. While skimo is my top priority, I also enjoy competing in endurance sports like triathlon, mountain biking, and climbing. This year, I began attending the University of Utah, where I’m pursuing a business degree with a major in finance. With your support, Team USA can compete on the world stage, inspire future athletes, and strengthen the presence of skimo in the U.S.

Samantha Paisley

Hey! I’m Sam Paisley, skimo enthusiast. I started skimo when I was in 8th grade and here I am, 8 years later headed to my second World Champs. When I’m home from college, I coach Silverfork Skimo. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to teach and support the kids on this team. It has been amazing watching the dedication, determination, and energy of all the Silverfork athletes as they work towards their goals. Time and time again, they go out there and do something you never thought possible. Being able to support them in that, for me, has been one of the greatest joys.

Emmett Itoi

I’m Emmett, I’m 18 years old, and this is my 9th season skimo racing. I’ve spent 8 years as an athlete on Silverfork Skimo, and this season I’m also helping coach. I’m stoked to be able to represent the US Skimo Team and Silverfork Skimo in the sprint this year at the World Championships! In the off-season, I climb, backpack, and paraglide.
